Lots of designers assume you have to choose between metal or wood hardware based on whether the design is contemporary or traditional.
We offer both types, but find the decisions are more nuanced than that. For example, we can dress any poplar pole or finial in metallic finishes so rich you’d be hard-pressed to guess they’re wood. We can also fabricate wood pieces to shine in any contemporary setting. And, if you’ve seen some of the offerings from our partners (see more here) you know that many of them offer super fancy accessories to go with those metal poles.
Let’s review benefits of both wood and metal components with links to other resources:
Wood Hardware — Our wood poles, finials and accessories are crafted from sustainable-harvested (in the U.S.) poplar which combines durability with lighter weights. Poles can easily be spliced for longer window spans. Wood is also an amazing canvas for the many standard and custom finishes you can specify to complement your room design and drapery choices. We feature wood hardware from JL Anthony which can accommodate matching finials, brackets, rings and tie backs for custom designs AS WELL AS mitered returns and the made-to-measure SVELTE line of hardware.. This is bespoke-quality design and makes a stunning statement for one of the most viewed (who doesn’t stare out a window) portions of a room design.
Metal Hardware — Metal hardware often comes in stock colors such as black, bronze and shiny finishes like chrome and gold. Metal poles tend to be a slimmer, simpler profile ideal for minimalistic designs. We have carefully chosen a few partners for these applications to make sure you’re getting a refined level of craftsmanship (best for precision operation) and a wider selection of pole and finial styles. It is important to choose better manufacturers as there are a lot of cheap imports available elsewhere that tend to wear more quickly causing issues with operation and integrity especially if the draperies are heavier. And, if you are motorizing the draperies, even with our expertise, cheap hardware performs like, well, cheap hardware and follow-ups for repairs are common.
