Home automation is the fastest growing home improvement category. Are you in?
Home automation, or “SmartHomes,” as trends suggest are the fastest growing design/renovation category in home improvement and now new construction. As consumers are tied to smartphones, their attraction to automated tasks and ease of use is growing exponentially.
All of which begs the question: “Are you integrating automation/motorization into your designs, or uncertain about how to get started?”
Actually that seems like two questions, but regardless, if your are NOT making this a standard offering you are missing out on two key benefits of the trend. Namely:
- The sheer “wow” factor of automating your designs to create custom environments for clients. When you wrap fine furnishings, color and room elements in sound, lighting and function (like drawing the draperies while raising the lights) you hit the sweet spot for today’s homeowners. Trust us on this one, clients LOVE voice and button commands making rooms come alive
- The financial boost to your project budgets is substantial. Clients will pay (more) for SmartHome Pros to design/manage/install these elements in new construction and renovations largely because the perceived value is high and the ownership of a modern take on contemporary and traditional designs is so desirable.
Grand View Research reports that The global smart home market size was valued at USD 79.16 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 27.07% from 2023 to 2030. And not surprisingly renovations outgrew new construction by roughly 30%.
So how do you get started with SmartHomes?
Regardless if you’re an Interior Designer or SmartHome Pro, the process, while detailed, is remarkably simple. First off, you do not need to be an expert as L&A and JL Anthony have been motorizing installations for 40 years. We’re a Lutron Diamond Dealer and in addition to integrating these designs into projects for Designers and SmartHome Pro partners, we also are regularly sought out by manufacturers like Lutron and Somfy to troubleshoot and remedy issues in installations.
Next, it is a great idea to familiarize yourself with the many options available to you. Common applications include draperies, shades, lighting, video/TV/streaming, security, HVAC, cameras, music and appliances. Our specialists will help you design rooms and entire homes with these components, and if you’re a smart home pro, we will partner to include decorative elements and even implement our “COM” pricing to utilize your motors and controls, preserving your mark-ups on items.
Finally, it’s good to remember that any smart home pro (like L&A and JL Anthony) will have lots of questions about the home as there are a lot of details including measurements, electrical and desired performance that help you create valid cost and timeframe estimates (the less surprises the better). We don’t assume anything and neither should you as you’ll benefit greatly from giving your clients better presentations, estimates and expectations from the onset through the installation.
